over the years i’ve realised i have strong opinions. some matter, some don’t. one of my most revisited ones is about shapes.

i keep returning to triangles, i really hate triangles.

they are too pointy they stab me. i remember feeling it once, someone trying to tell me the truth and i asked them to ‘please stop throwing triangles at me i can feel them’. it was a piercing sensation all over my whole body into my brain and into my heart over and over. i remember that pain coursing through me, it was agonising. i was bleeding and the spikes plugged my wounds, the blood had nowhere to go. i wanted to run away. then there’s also their ego, if shapes had egos, triangles would be insufferable. they say they’re the strongest shape in engineering but i don’t respect them for that. it wasn’t suffered for. i like shapes with an ego when it feels like they have bled for it. triangles have not bled for it. so how am i meant to respect them? truth be told i have caught myself on occasion trying to formulate a replacement for them.

circles i find too naive. it’s the constant continuation of their form that bothers me, there is no end and no beginning. i view them as a purgatory attempting to be perceived as joyous. they are reminiscent of the ouroboros, but there is no end in their cycle no transformation just a continuation of what already exists. the circle is unable to see what is real and constantly adheres to the sentiment ‘ignorance is bliss’, this is a statement i rarely agree with. i will not accept something that always wants to live by this philosophy. they are unable to alter their course, but why would they even try? their existence is a fatally endless cycle repeating the same pattern.

but squares are home. four equal sides four equal angles. they sit in place and remind me of the four elements in congruence together. they hold themselves steady. my mind goes quieter with them and i’m not full of vitriol towards them. even the sigils i create have ‘four’ at the root. i find my root phrase where the amount of syllables is divisible by four, every fourth letter of my root phrase is extracted, turned into the corresponding glyph from my language and overlaid with the other fourth letters. the extraction becomes functional beauty.

with my squares, their corners are sharp, yes, but not in the violent fashion of the triangles. moreover, they avoid the trap the circle succumbs to, the square will not roll in that same fashion.

when four is here, i have my peace
